So I called Concept Z today concerning installation of my front lip. They said that the front would have to be cut out to fit it properly, if I wanted functional ducts (which I do want for my swap next year). So after much thinking, I just decided to tackle it. I actually just got done 10 min ago from typing this up!

It's 2am, and I can't sleep. I decided to head to Wal-Mart for a new carbide Dremel bit to cut out the notches. Here's my progress:

This is the first time I've ever taken the front bumper off. Not too bad once I finally did it
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4505/71jt.jpg

I know my car's been in some sorta wreck, nothing major though. This is the condition of my front bumper (you can also see the fog light housing cracked)
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1819/62pd.jpg

Test fitting the front. It physically wouldn't fit on if I didn't cut the slots.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/9439/52de.jpg

Notches cut out (doing this made me nervous)
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/7528/47hw1.jpg

Quickley fitted to see how it sits. Turned out nice and flush
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9361/37fp.jpg

AND done! (hard to see since its like 6:45am)

I'm going to the paint shop today to see how much it's gonna be to have it painted......surely not that much. With Stillen side skirts, I think it's really gonna set it off.

Looks good. I get nervous as all gtet out doing anything with the body. Or anything with the Z in general, lol. Cant wait to see it finished.

(And I am not the Shortest guy in a Z either, lol Haha, Shorty! [I am 5 4])

Spyder- I honestly dont get how you fit in the car. I had a soldier in my car yesterday that was maybe 6 2 and didnt fit all that well. Physics man, beyond me...

Passenger side has waaaaay less room than driver's. I fit in the 2+0, but am much more comfortable in my 2+2. There should be a pic of me with the t-tops off and the seat all the way up and my head sticking out of the car. I just wish my club member's would upload them.

I can't ride space mountain at disneyland. It'll decapitate me if I sit up straight. And I have to sit in 2 seats. Not because I'm fat (which I am), but because I'm so tall. I miss that ride.

You got $75 to go/ With parking and 1 effing ticket that's about how much you'd spend. Not including the $4 for a can of coke.

When I ride rollercoasters and put my harness all the way down, I usually still have space to move around when its fully secured. Airtime is great!

Curious.....I'm going to finish securing the lip, once painted, with 3M mounting tape, like Stillen recommends. Anyone have any experience with it and how strong it is?

Spyder Z 15

I had teh N/A lip and it was fastened with rivets. Damn father. The rivets would've been covered by that black strip though.

The 3m tape is what was used to put my front "Fairlady Z" plate on, it doesn't have any pressure or weight on it. It's had the daylights washed out of it and still holding up. I think as long as the surface is clean and dry it'll be ok.

College is for losers.... drop out, get a job as a mechanic make tons of money buy as many Zs as u want get a big house put them in the garage, go buy a TV that cost a couple thousand dollars, get a huge 1000 dollar sectional couch, a 900 dollar bed and still spend money on your Zs at your own free will all in the same week....and all that with only one semester of college lol Maybe i will go back

Mmm I like that painted lip a lot...I'd put it above the USDM and one notch below the J-spec, but not much below. Very clean looking Z you have there.

tnkrstoyco
05-11-2006, 03:43 PM
Damn bud that looks good.
When your ready for the 99 spoiler get hold of Jose at http://www.ionicdynamics.com/ he makes the replica spoiler.

McLarenF1Kid
05-11-2006, 03:43 PM
And that was my whole idea. I didnt' want to change up the front so much that it didn't look like a Z. I want everything I do to this car to basically highlight this car, not change it. The front still looks just like a stock Z, just with a lip.

Thanks for that link......great price!

^Get one! Especially how low your car is, it'd set it off.

Biz
05-11-2006, 06:06 PM
im almost considering it... cuz i dont like the jspec or other body kits.. i like the lines the Z has now but i want a lower look

McLarenF1Kid
05-11-2006, 11:25 PM
And compared to other kits and OEM parts, its really affordable. This is my favorite picture of it. It really shows off how it makes the car appear lower, and how it flows with the body lines really well.

GIANT size picture!

I thought his wing problems had been straightened out. I saw one in Branson and it looked pretty good.
I had said something at 3c about his quality and he crawled all up my ass about putting his product down.

js9krcr01040
05-12-2006, 09:12 AM
If his problem is straight now, I would even go with a 99 Spoiler. Um, can someone buy it, fit it, paint it, and post pics so we can see, lol.

tnkrstoyco
05-12-2006, 09:39 AM
Check thru the Branson picture thread and look for a 300 that is 350 "Lemans Sunset". it has the ionicdynamics spoiler on it. I didn't ask what sort of fitment issues he may have had.

JBender

Those pictures are pretty decent for a Vivitar 4100...how much did you pay for it? I've got an old FujiFilm 2650 that I bought new back in the day, mostly for its excellent macro lens, but I'm overdue for an upgrade, hehe.

If I can find a good price on one of those lips tomorrow at the Stillen open house....... I'll have one too.

McLarenF1Kid
05-12-2006, 03:57 PM
^Nice man, that'd look great on your car, plus I've yet to see a white Z with it. That......and I love the Thruxtons!

JBender, lol how did you know what kind of camera I have? Anyways, I found it on the clearance table in the electronics section at Wal-Mart one day. $80 for a 4.0mp, so I picked it up. After my friend taught me all about proper lighting, EV balance, setting proper ISO, my pictures turned out great.

I need to do a shoot with my brother's camera. He has a 7.1mp Nikkon CoolPix.

that looks amazing. the jspec spoiler will look hawt, i have always liked the look of it.

McLarenF1Kid
05-12-2006, 07:06 PM
What's annoying me though is that apart from 3-4 pics I've seen, I can't really find any pictures of that wing on the Z. What made me want it so bad is this Z I found on CarDomain that has 19's, kit, and the spoiler, and it looks so clean. I've been raving about wanting the Zeta wing, BUT I can do alot with $400, plus I want my Z to be unique rather than just keeping it too traditional. And I'm not too fond of the pedestal wing.

Biz
05-12-2006, 07:35 PM
isnt the jspec a pedestal wing?

freakonaleash1187
05-12-2006, 08:36 PM
well, the '94-'96 pedestal wing doesnt look that good. but i think the '99 pedestal wing looks really nice.

JBender
05-12-2006, 10:19 PM
Hehe, the camera manufacturer / model is in the EXIF data in unmodified image files.

As for the wing, I've gone full circle from wanting the Zeta to the '99 and now back to no wing, such a tough decision. You don't have any tint on your Z, do you?

McLarenF1Kid
05-12-2006, 11:20 PM
Yeah they're tinted, but its some cheap tint that came on the car when I bought it. It looks like 35%, but I'm not sure. It's getting redone anyways.

The '99 Jspec is a pedestal, but it flows much better than the 94-96 in my opinion.

Hey I just ordered the Stillen GTZ front lip for my 93 Convertible because the installed one is cracked to hell (received it like that. Bit of a fixer-upper).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/baronbrady/008.jpg

One thing I noticed, though, was that the original poster's front lip didn't seem to extend very far back from the front of the car.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/baronbrady/018.jpg

For a better idea of how far back mine goes:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/baronbrady/017.jpg

Is this normal? Do most people just remove most of that?

And will the condition of this lip affect the installation of the Stillen lip?

Thanks,
Brady

you'll probably need to replace that fascia to make the lip fit right, that one is so fargone....

baronbrady
09-03-2007, 02:25 AM
Specifically, is it normal for the lip to extend that far back from the front of the car? And do you think I can maybe do some kind of repair work to make it fit in the new lip?

Specifically, is it normal for the lip to extend that far back from the front of the car? And do you think I can maybe do some kind of repair work to make it fit in the new lip? That piece that extends back under the car is the splash shield, it is not part of the fascia but attaches to it with screws. McLarenF1Kid is missing his.

I think you will be able to repair your original fascia enough that the Stillen lip will attach without issue, and the repair won't need to be pretty because the Stillen lip will cover it.
