Z32 Automatic: Can't follow "A/T Diagnostics" proceedure

I've beat my head on the wall on this I tried both the directions on this site "A/T Diagnostics" Step #3 Turn the Ign Off Step #4 Move the selector to Drive D by using the push realease button If not equiped use the brake pedal

and I have a Nissan shop manual: How the #^*@ do you shift the trans lever with the Ign Off?
Mine requires both the Ign On and a Foot On Brake to move Shift Lever!!!
