I keep failing a smog test simply due to my check engine light. Long story short, I think it is flaky or I have a bad wire somewhere. I've checked the codes and replaced the responsible parts and still the same crap. I tried to determine if I could check the light for malfunction, but no luck.

As an alternative I want to temporarily disable it so I can pass the smog test. Can anyone tell me how to find the wire to place an in-line switch /connector on it OR to remove the bulb? I'd think breaking the wire would be easier than disassembling the dash--am I wrong?

I know where the ECU is, but how do I determine the wire for the darn check engine light?

Run that and see what the trouble is first. O2 sensor(s) would be my first guess.

Yeah I've done the checks and all. The light or something else (wiring maybe) is flaky. Driving me mad! I don't want to disable it permanently if possible, but if that's the only solution to get the stupid thing off so it'll pass emission testing I'll do it. Even if the light is off, I can occassionally check the ECU to see if any codes are present. Normally, if it's something noteworthy, it'll cause the car to run bad anyway. The car runs fine and no parts I've checked have been bad.

Emissions testing = scam for the emission shops to rake you over the coals!
