my timing belt is squealing very loud, then will quit, and even start back..also under hard acceleration the car starts to cut out like timing problems..i think the belt is stretched and causing the noise and affecting the power..does that make sense?anyway, i took off the timing covers and can see the timing marks on both sides..one side is in the 1 oclock position and the other side is in the 2 oclock position...shouldnt these be in sync? like both at 1 or 2 oclock? what is the timing process on a 91 twin? i am waiting for someone who knows before i touch it.....whre is the tensioner located? does the car have to be on a lift to get to the tensioner? i appreciate anyone who will give some advice....thanks rob

when i did my belt, there is a mark on the belt guard behind the the belt, you have to line all 4 cams to the marks(i used a scribe to make sure it was right on the mark) then the crank has to be lined up on the mark behind the gear, then i tightned up the tensioner. the tensioner is right under the intake cam gear on the passenger side. here is a link of the repair manual. this helped me out!
