OH SHAP!! i gots me a 99 JSPEC FASCIA!! These turn signals are awesome!! OH no the old harness wont fit! what do i do?!!

A common problem when buying a 99 JSPEC fascia is figuring out how to get the turn signals to work. The 99 JSPEC turn signals do not have 2 bulbs to light up the turn signal for the marker and signal lights like the ASPEC Z32s have. THere are several ways you can make the signals work.

A: wire in a dual filament socket and harness (usaully sourced from a Ford F150)

B: Remove one of the locking tabs from the ASPEC turn signal socket (easy method)

In order to this you will need

1 pair of cutting dykes

1 knife

1 phillips head screwdriver

I will be comparing a USDM Turn signal to a JSPEC turn signal, mine are already installed so i will be showing you from this point of view but its all the same.

USDM Turn signal:

Remove turn signal by releasing this tab:

The back of the USDM turn signal:

Notice there are 3 locking tabs in the USDM Turn signal, and the turn signal socket:

the back of a JSPEC turn signal, notice it has a spot for 4 tabs (i have long since thrown away my JSPEC sockets that came with the signals)

Another shot of the back of a JSPEC Turn signal:

Remove the circled tab, you can cut a good portion of it with a pair of cutting dykes, and then smooth away some of the left over plastic with a knife.

This is a comparison of the tabs before and after removal of the tab

As far as the bulb and harness that leads to the marker portion of the ASPEC turn signal, just remove the bulb and tape it to the main harness. (its pictured in the above picture, its the harness hanging down)

And this is your finished product, JSPEC turn signal installed and ready to go.

Goodluck, hope this helps all of you that have been concearned about what to do about the turn signals!

Or you can go to Autozone and get this GM socket and remove one tiny little tab, it leaves you with 3 locking tabs.

Nice write-up!! So the result of this will be no corner markers whatsoever, ie, no parking lights, correct?

Thanks, used this today. Hopefully they will hurry up and finish my Z so I can try it out. They seem to still fit in the housing tightly.

I know this is a few months old post, but there are still parking lights, and the turn signals still function properly. Its just as it normally would be. The ASPEC parking light bulb that illuminates the orange portion of the ASPEC turn signal, becomes useless in this case. But your parking lamps and turn signals still work properly.

Hey, thanks for that. I wish I had my car at home right now (still at paint shop). I think I'm going to have to come up with a 3 wire mod as well. I say this because my J-Spec Z doesn't use the turn signal marker unit as a park light function. The J-Spec Z's park light have a very small wattage secondary bulb located within the fog light shell.
Hmmmm, I may have to get creative here.

John does the C/Jspec just use a one filament bulb in the corner lights or a 2 filament bulb. If it's the 1 filament the socket that comes with your new lights could work.
The small wattage bulb that's in your fog light shell is probably a 194.

Stephen, being that my car is J-Spec I believe there never was an intended dual function of the corner markers. It was strickly used for turn signal purposes since there's also fender side turn signals. The park ligh function mirrors the EU approach in that there's a small 194 bulb that's incorporated into the fog lights. The oem connector for the corner markers has only two wires. The bulb in itself is a single filament. I believe your USDM connector/socket is geared for a 3 wire use. That's where the dual park/turn function capability comes from. If I were to try to convert my corner markers to dual function I'd have to tap into the power that drives the fog light 194 bulbs - I think. Then get a 3 wire socket and dual filament (1157) bulb.

Thanks for this great advice. I used to got some bad problems with my turn signals most of the time from my previous car.
