Is there any difference between AMZ's Steel driveshaft (17 lbs) and Z1's Steel driveshaft? I'm looking to order mine within the next couple days and I am just looking for opinions.
Thanks

I've got the Z1 steelie, I bought it about 3 years ago before AMZ had them. I can't say anything bad about it, as it works great. I'd give the AMZ a try though. Mitch will stand behind it if there's something wrong with it, and he's not known to sell junk anyway. On top of that, I'd like to see a review of one of AMZ's DS's.

I wonder if AMZ would have the DS I would need?

you could use your OEM one for your "project" unless you convert it to a manual.

But I thought I needed a diff one since i need a certain piece of the drivetrain and the current piece of my drivetrain?

You won't need to replace the DS unless you convert to a 5spd or change the differencial.

I'm going with an aluminum one. I got quoted $310 from a local d/s shop a coupla months ago. I'll compare that to the online retailers when I get closer to doing the clutch.

I just installed an AMZ driveshaft a few days ago. I was poking around online and found that some driveshafts (Z1) need you to lube them before you put them in, so I e-mailed AMZ about it and Mitch got back to me in a few hours, on Sunday, with the answer (which is no, but lube the input shaft part).

Haven't been able to tell the difference because the rest of the car is still falling apart around me, but at least the driveshaft is nice and new :)

Hey John,

Did Mitch's driveshaft have grease fittings on the U-joints? The Z1 shaft did, so naturally, I packed it full of lithium grease before installing it. The U-joints on the Z1 shaft are replaceable if one ever breaks or wears out, which was a big brownie point for them. They use $15.00 GM U-joints, available at any autozone or oreilly auto parts store. I was wondering if AMZ's were the same way, I've never really asked Mitch about them.

Hmm, I don't really know the difference, so I can't give you a solid answer there.

I get to take a look at the driveshaft in a few days, though, because when I moved her today there was a pool of oil coming from the rear main seal, which my buddy replaced when we swapped in the new tranny...awesome...

lithium grease, you can find it at any auto parts store.

Has anyone said anything about the Powertrain Industries DS? Well last month I replace my old DS with a 1pc from Powertrain and I feel so satisfied since all my vibrations are gone, specially the ones from the steering wheel. Also I went ahead to weight the DS and it came out to be 17lbs.

AMZ's is cheaper than Z1's. Looks like I'll be getting one from AMZ :)
