I did some work that required removing the exhaust today, and beforehand I bought the exhaust gaskets (part # 20691-30P00 x2) at the dealership. When I replaced the transmission a few months ago at my buddy's shop, we didn't have any new gaskets on hand, so he just put some sort of liquid gasket on the connection between the exhaust manifold and the pipe before the cats (see here (http://twinturbo.net/net/ViewFiche.aspx?go=2-A-13)). Today, I removed that gasket material when I had the exhaust off, and also pried off what looked to be the old gaskets. The new gaskets from the dealership were thin metal rings, that (I assume) were the same as what I pried off the exhaust.
However, when I started it up and drove it today, there was definitely a major exhaust leak from the manifold / pre-cat connection. What did I do incorrectly? The bolts are torqued down tight, and the new gaskets looked like they should do the job right. If worse comes to worse, can I use the liquid gasket I have to seal the pipes for now? 3ZC is down so hopefully enough people are patrolling here that might know the answer :) thanks
