Here............... I'll add some content. First, I'm a cheap-ass, and I'm not gonna spend money on aftermarket springs that I don't really need. (But then again, I'd prolly do something really dumb, and spend $5k trying to make my own springs). :P

So anyway, I happen to have an extra set of oem springs laying around. I'm gonna start with cutting half a coil off each one. Mount them up and see how she sets. Then I'll cut a 1/4 coil at a time till I get the height I want.

Has anyone else gone this route in an effort to lower their cars a little?

I wouldn't dare do it to a Z, but I did it on my old Neon. Actually worked great! Rode just like stock, and looked really good.

But one REALLY bad downfall...........few times I hit a very hard bump, the spring fell off the strut, dropping the car, and dragging the spring between the tire. VERY scary rubbing noise. Had to jack up the car and realign the spring on the side of the road. That happend 3 times in the 6 months I had them on there (until I ordered my lowering springs).

I would not recommend it, personally. If you're that desperate, and brave enough, then go right ahead. Just be careful on rough roads, and anywhere that's gonna uncompress the entire suspension. Or, save yourself the effort and get some generic ebay springs. I actually put a set on a friends Altima, and 2 years later, they still ride awesome and look good.

If it's an extra set why not. If it's your only set I say hell no.

I would get the cheap Ebay ones instead. They won't cost you over $100.

Yeah, great idea. You will completely change car balance and screw up suspension geometry. The shocks will be destroyed within a week or two. And there’s a very good chance that while driving at a highway speed, car will hit a pothole or a bump and you will effectively become a human pate on a guardrail. Good luck.

^Haha.

But yeah, I've heard some bad stories from people who cut their springs.

Thanks for this tip. My friend actually told me the opposite of it. Damn, I almost lost my car balance that time.
